Clearly stated learning outcomes help students understand what is expected of them and help instructors focus on precisely what they want students to achieve. Before you plan your class, think about what you want your students to get out of it.  An example of a learning outcome could be; you want you students to be able to escape from strangles. You may have to broaden out on your objectives by looking at the variety of strangles such as being pushed back while being strangled, pressed against a wall, standing still, from the side, face pressed into a wall, etc. 

Now you have fully established your goal, learning outcome or what you want to achieve in a clear and concise fashion then you have a foundation to deliver a great class.
